Certification and Information

Global Organic Textile Standard

The Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS) is a material and processing standard for organic latex and finished latex foam. It also covers the manufacturing, packaging, labelling, distributing, processing and trading

To meet the GOLS standard the product must have:

  • 95% certified organic raw material of the total weight
  • No pesticides or chemical based fertilisers have been used on the land for three to four years
  • Regular soil and leaf testing must be carried out and water samples taken daily.
  • The place of manufacture must have a written policy in place for the management of any waste and/or pollution created in the manufacturing process.
  • There are also strict policies regarding working hours, living wages, child labour etc.
  • The certified organic latex must be stored separately from any regular latex.

Forestry Stewardship Council

Forests are inspected and certified against strict standards based on FSC’s 10 Principles of Forest Stewardship. These inspections are undertaken by independent organisations, such as the Soil Association, that are accredited by the FSC. In order to be given FSC certification a forest must be managed in an environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable manner. This is what makes the FSC system unique and ensures that a forest is well-managed from the protection of indigenous people’s rights to the methods of felling trees. Forests that meet these strict standards are given FSC certification and the timber allowed to carry the FSC label.

Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is recognised as the world’s leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibres. It defines high-level environmental criteria along the entire organic textiles supply chain and requires compliance with social criteria as well. Their web site is here:
