If you want a natural latex organic mattress which is uniquely supportive the Rhossili is the one for you. This luxury mattress is made using three separate pads of organic natural latex. A 12 cm organic latex core has one 3 cm layer of organic latex on top and one on the bottom. The 3 cm layers help give a softer feel but with lots of support. Organic wool layers are hand layered around the organic latex to add the final touch of comfort.
The Rhossili is a luxury mattress which is metal free and can be made to any size. It is approximately 21cms deep, can be made in soft, medium or firm and is guaranteed for 15 years.
Natural organic latex is made with sap from the Hevea Brasilensis (rubber tree) and is a natural alternative to memory foam. All our latex is certified to either FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) or GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard). For more information about these certification bodies please contact us. The whole mattress is certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard by the Soil Association and hand made in Wales.
* Photo shows the mattress split as 2. All Rhossili mattresses can either be split or come as a whole mattress. Photo looks identical to Raglan but the difference with the latex mattresses is their height.

There is a preconception that you have to buy a mattress in-store. Click here to read about why this is not always the best way.
No two people sleep in exactly the same way. Some of us sleep on our backs, others on their sides, and some on their tummies. There is lots of research that claims that sleeping on your side is best, because it takes the strain off the back and hips, and women tend to favour this position. It’s really important for side sleepers not to choose a mattress that’s too firm, as there needs to be plenty of give to support the curve of shoulder and hip.
Approximately ten to fifteen percent of the population sleep in their backs, and it can be problematic because it encourages snoring and sleep apnoea. However if that is your favoured position then a firmer mattress will help support your lower back.
If you sleep on your stomach you need to make sure that your mattress is always in tip top condition. If the mattress is too soft then your spine is thrown out of alignment and there isn’t enough support for your neck which can cause back pain.
Clearly the most important thing that affects quality of sleep is comfort, so ensuring that your mattress supports you properly is crucial. Weight plays a part when you’re making the decision about which type of mattress to buy, and the chart below is a guideline that will help you make a decision. At the heavier end of the scale it’s important to realise that a Firm mattress may need a topper so that there is both support and cushioning.

If you come and visit us we’ll do everything we can to ensure that you have enough time and space to choose the right mattress for you. But before you plan your visit here are some useful points to have a think about.
Showrooms can be intimidating places, especially on the high street. Lying down in front of strangers isn’t very comfortable for some people and the tendency is to make a hurried decision to get the whole thing over with. Sitting on the edge of a mattress isn’t going to give you any idea of what it’s going to feel like when you go to bed at night, and the tendency is to choose a mattress that’s too firm.

How long will it take before my order is ready?
We only work to order and our usual lead times are 4-6 weeks for a mattress, 6-8 weeks for a bed and mattress.
What happens if I need to return my mattress?
We will do all we can to ensure that the mattress you receive is the one that you’ll be most comfortable on. If it turns out that this isn’t the case and you need something that is firmer or softer we will exchange, free of charge, if you let us know within the first fourteen days that you have an issue with the mattress.
In line with our green credentials, we make mattresses from sustainable materials. These materials are all organic and natural, and we expect our mattresses to last a long time. Our guarantee covers you against faulty workmanship or materials and we hope that you will look after the mattress by turning it regularly, hoovering it occasionally and stripping the bed every now and again to let the mattress breathe.
No guarantee can cover the way that a mattress is used, so please be careful if you need to move your mattress from one room to another and when you’re turning it. A pocket sprung mattress must not be folded or allowed to flop under its own weight.
Peace of mind: Be smart, buy organic!

When you order from us we will spend as much time as you need discussing your prospective purchase. We have twenty years experience of manufacturing mattresses that are hand built for individual customers so we know exactly how each of the different materials we use behaves. I just wanted to say a big thank you! I have been sleeping on my new Dovey bedstead with Rhossili Soft mattress for 2 weeks and it is absolutely wonderful. The mattress gives just the right amount of support and is so cosy and comfortable. Couldn’t be happier not to have to deal with the stinky off-gassing problem. Wish I’d taken the plunge years ago! Also, the lady (who handmakes the mattresses) and gentleman who came to deliver the mattress and put together the bedstead were really helpful and knowledgeable. It’s been a brilliant experience all round; from visiting the showroom and meeting you, ordering, delivery and actually sleeping in the bed! Thank you so much for the unique and super service you provide in handmaking genuinely non-toxic organic mattresses/beds.
This mattress has enabled me to sleep through the night despite long term back/hip issues, so the positive impact is felt all the next day as well. Rhiannon's knowledge and customer service is five star. Thanks Rhiannon, for the time you gave me in helping me choose the right one.
Thanks so much Louise, good to know you're getting a good night's rest.
I've been sleeping on my Rhossili mattress for six weeks now and it is honestly the best mattress I have ever slept on. I visited the showroom and met founder Rhiannon who was really kind and helpful and patient with my questions. Trying out all the mattresses was a joy in itself - I could have lain there all day. Because Abaca were only allowing one visit each in morning or afternoon there was no rush, and Rhiannon let me take my time. So eventually I decided on a medium firmness Rhossili - I might have gone for a soft, but I sleep on my back as well as my side, so a medium it is. I'd already bought a second-hand bedframe with curved corners at the foot end, so Rhiannon asked me to send a template as well as the precise measurements, and I posted off a cardboard cutout of the corner shape. Several weeks later and Ed and Gwilym arrived with the mattress on the date and time Rhiannon had told me. The mattress fitted perfectly, curve and all. Gwilym commented that he was glad to see that it fitted, so I asked if either of them had been involved in making it, and he said yes, so I was able to say thank you directly to one of the two makers, which was great. I'd badly injured my toe earlier that day, and been advised to put my feet up to speed recovery, so for the first week I was on my new mattress most of the day as well as the night - and if you have to be trapped in bed for days on end, then I can definitely recommend an Abaca mattress to be trapped on! My toe is almost entirely healed now, so sadly I have no good excuse for being in bed except at night! But the pleasure has not gone away - it's still a delight to be sleeping on such a beautifully comfortable, superbly made, and totally sustainable mattress. Thank you to everybody at Abaca!
Thank you so much Rowan, it was a pleasure meeting you and I'm so glad your mattress has fulfilled your expectations.
I don’t usually leave reviews but The team at Abaca we’re so accommodating and helpful that I couldn’t not! Not only that but our mattress is literally the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. I am now sold on buying my son one as he loves our bed too! Thanks so much and if your thinking about it and not sure whether to take the plunge... DO IT! You will not regret it!
I just wanted to write to say a big thank you for my new mattress. It makes such a difference to be comfortable in a bed in which I have to spend more time than most (due to the ME / CFS). I’m sure I’m sleeping better too, which really helps. People like you make life more bearable. I hope your business continues to grow; I’ve recommended your products to my friends and family.
Four great reasons to buy organic
Why you should consider going organic when you sleep
Organic Mattresses Are Chemical Free
Conventional mattresses use a wide variety of chemicals during the manufacturing process and adhesives are often used to glue the layers of a mattress together. Not what you want to be sharing a bed with! Organic materials are produced without the use of harmful pesticides, herbicides and insecticides, and all the materials we use in our mattresses are either recyclable or biodegradable.
Organic Mattresses are a healthy option
In many cases, allergies and problems with the respiratory tract are aggravated by elements found in conventionally made mattresses, especially memory foam. We are at our most vulnerable in bed and don’t spend as long anywhere else from day to day. Investing in a mattress that doesn’t introduce any of these foreign elements into our sleeping environment is a healthy option! People who buy an Abaca mattress often call us to say that symptoms like runny noses, sneezing, coughing, and skin irritations are either significantly reduced or eliminated within just a few weeks of sleeping on the mattress.
Organic Mattresses help regulate your temperature
Man made materials make for very poor temperature regulation. Memory foam, for example, often becomes very hot at night, whereas the organic cotton and wool in every Abaca mattress wick moisture away from the body and help your body achieve restful sleep.
Organic Mattresses Are Sustainable
As a certified organic company we are very conscious of our carbon footprint. Every year 7.5 million mattresses go into landfill in the UK alone, so producing mattresses using materials that can be recycled is really important.

Many people believe you have to buy a mattress in-store. However most consumers purchase organic mattresses that are too firm for their needs for many reasons.
